The Ground Rules

Look, we’re all about celebrating Joplin — its quirks, its culture, and its people. But every great community needs a few house rules to keep things safe, fun, and drama-free.

Here’s how we roll:

What’s Not Welcome Here

Some things just don’t fly on Explore Joplin.

We don’t allow listings, posts, or promotions that involve:

  • Any illegal activities or violations of city, state, or federal law.
  • Organized crime, terrorism, or hate groups (obviously).
    Pornography or sexual services.
  • Unlicensed pharmacies or sales of prescription-only medications.
  • Vape shops, liquor stores, strip clubs, or gambling establishments (unless we’ve given explicit approval in writing).
  • Firearms (unless sold by certified resellers).
  • Anything unsafe, harmful, or that makes our community less awesome.

Cannabis-Related Businesses

Yes, Missouri has legal dispensaries, and yes, they’re part of our local scene.

Here’s how we handle it:

  • Only licensed Missouri dispensaries can be listed.
  • Listings must be strictly informational: business name, address, hours, contact info, and website.
  • 🚫 No product photos, pricing, promotions, or medical/health claims.
  • Everything must comply with Missouri state law and local regulations.

We love local businesses, but we’re not a sales platform for cannabis products.

Think of us as your friendly neighborhood directory — not a dispensary menu.

Respecting Intellectual Property

Explore Joplin is here to spotlight your story, your business, and your creativity.

Here’s how we handle content:

  • You own your stuff. Anything you upload is still yours. By posting it on Explore Joplin, you give us permission to feature it in our marketing (social posts, blogs, newsletters, etc.). This helps us grow the community and put more eyes on your business.
  • Don’t want to be featured? No problem — just let us know and we’ll opt you out.
  • Play fair. Only upload content you own or have rights to. That means respecting copyrights, trademarks, and all the legal fine print.

Keeping Content Meaningful

We want Explore Joplin to feel like… well, Joplin. That means celebrating what makes our city unique and skipping the spammy, gimmicky stuff.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • 🚫 No spam or clickbait. If your post feels like a bait-and-switch ad, it’s out.
  • 🎯 Ads should add value. Paid promotions and special offers should give the community something real. If it feels off-brand, we may ask for a revision before approval.
  • 📬 Respect inboxes. Contact listings for relevant reasons only. Nobody likes random spam blasts.

Our goal is simple: build a space that reflects Joplin’s culture, supports local businesses, and creates genuine connections — not just noise.

Our Right to Refuse or Remove

We reserve the right to refuse, suspend, or remove any listing, promotion, or content at our sole discretion, for any reason, and without notice. This includes (but isn’t limited to) anything we believe breaks these guidelines, violates laws, or just doesn’t vibe with Explore Joplin.

Limitation of Liability

We’re here to hype Joplin, not get caught in lawsuits. Explore Joplin is not responsible for any damages, losses, or disputes that come from the inclusion, exclusion, or removal of a listing. By submitting, you agree to these terms and release Explore Joplin from liability.

Policy Updates

We might tweak these guidelines from time to time. By continuing to use Explore Joplin, you’re agreeing to the latest version (don’t worry, we’ll keep it clear and simple).

Legal Fine Print

These Community Guidelines are written to keep things approachable. For the full legal nitty-gritty, check out our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
