This mural was dedicated to Joplin’s 100th birthday in 1973 and really captures life at this period in time. Thomas Hart Benton is a world-renowned Missouri painter and muralist, native to Neosho. His work epitomizes a period in American art known as Regionalism. Visit City Hall to learn the stories behind this mural—make sure to visit the Evolution of a Mural located on the mezzanine level. This area showcases the thought-process of Benton’s mural from inception to execution.
