In 2016, the final activity of the Joplin Proud Committee, a group charged with planning events commemorating the May 2011 tornado, unveiled a 20-feet-wide by 10-feet-high mural in the newly established Mercy Park. On the Wings of Butterflies was designed by A.J. and Jordan Wood to be an interactive piece of artwork that viewers stand in front of and become a part of, making for a memorable photo-op. The mural was manufactured and installed by Whitehill Enterprises, LLC.
